Finding Refuge Within: Presence, Nature, and the Power of Awareness
A Contemplative Half-Day Retreat for Students at Serenity Ridge
Join the UVA Contemplative Sciences Center for a half-day retreat created especially for students seeking space to pause, reset, and reconnect.
Set in the peaceful natural environment of Serenity Ridge, this 4-hour experience offers a break from academic pressure and daily busyness, inviting you to slow down and explore simple practices that support focus, clarity, and well-being.
The retreat includes a guided silent walk in nature led by Rob Patzig. You’ll be invited to walk in silence, unplug from distractions, and tune into your senses—connecting more deeply with both the natural world and your own inner experience.
Following the walk, you’ll join Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche for a 75-minute session that includes both guided meditation and interactive dialogue. This is an opportunity to deepen your experience of awareness, reflect on what you noticed during the walk, and explore practical ways to bring mindfulness into your daily life—whether that’s studying, managing stress, or navigating challenges.
A shared lunch will follow, offering time to relax, connect with other students, and continue informal conversation.
Together, the afternoon balances silence, guided practice, and meaningful exchange—supporting both personal insight and a sense of community.
What you’ll experience:
- A silent, guided nature walk
- A 75-minute session with Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche (meditation + dialogue)
- Practical tools for integrating mindfulness into daily life
- Lunch and informal connection with fellow students
- Space to reflect, reset, and reconnect
No prior experience is needed. Just bring comfortable clothing, curiosity, and a willingness to unplug for a few hours.
